Be Connected the Right Way

Did you know that over 12 years ago the Victorian Electricity Industry changed the Off-Peak window which was 8 hours from 11 pm – 7 am; (known as Y8) ; to 6 hours from 1 am to 7 am (known as Y6).

Why ? Because many thousands of Off-Peak electric water heaters turning on together at 11 pm were resulting in a difficult Off-Peak “Peak”.

Water Heater Manufacturers were requested to build with 4.8 kw elements to ensure that the water heaters fully energised in the 6 hour period. The common element size prior to this was 3.6 kw.

What does it mean ? If you are purchasing, specifying or installing an Off-Peak Electric Water Heater in Victoria which is a Replacement installation for a previous old water heater ; make sure that the Home Wiring is upgraded to meet 20/25 A, or that you specify a Y8 Water Heater, which will be built with a 3.6 kw element.

If a wiring upgrade or element downsize is not undertaken, then circuit breakers, wiring and control switching terminations are at risk of overheat and thermal failure. Result : A return trip to the Installation.

Everlast™ Hydro Systems recommends a simple wiring upgrade which ensures faster reheat recovery, more efficient operation and results in boost switch and timer check by the electrician at the time of upgrade.

And of course, if a repeat of the replacement is to be avoided; make sure its an Everlast™ Stainless Steel Electric Storage Water Heater and make replacement a thing of the past.
