The Plumbing Code now requires new Domestic Hot Water Installations to have a TV (Tempering Valve) to ensure that water is delivered at the safe temperature of under 50º C to the home.
The Cold Water feed to the Tempering valve should ALWAYS be downstream of the PLV (Pressure Limiting Valve).
If the Cold Water feed to the Tempering Valve is at some convenient location upstream of the PLV, then the TV will allow the upstream (mains) pressure at the water heater and :
Even though a PLV is installed, the PTR valve will weep excessively due to water heater pressure during heating reaching or exceeding the PTR valve trigger pressure.
So : If you don’t want an unhappy, weeping PTR valve and matching customer; always Install the Tempering Valve Cold Water Feed AFTER the PLV.
The only reason that the customer will have for weeping then, is if you didn’t install an Everlast™ Stainless Steel Electric Storage Water Heater. |
